An alumnus of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (Masters, 2003), Savitha received her PhD from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai for her work titled 'Early language development in Tamil speaking children with cleft lip and palate – A longitudinal study'. A passionate teacher, she is currently a Professor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Chennai, and a Consultant Cleft Specialist Speech Language Pathologist.

An SLP specializing in the field of cleft lip and palate, Savitha's special interest includes training and capacity building for cleft speech. She is one of the master trainers for cleft speech in India. As a consultant SLP, her current project involves reviewing and expanding speech services provided across Smile Train cleft centers in India. Savitha designed and executed the SmileTrain Speech Training Initiative in Myanmar for Cleft (2017-18). She has served as the coordinator of the project 'Sri Ramachandra University- Smile Train Speech Training Initiativ' (2008 - 2012). She has been involved in training speech pathologists and providing services in cleft lip and palate in countries including India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Srilanka. Savitha has presented numerous presentations in scientific forums at the regional, national and international level and has eleven publications to her credit.
