“I am so touched with Smile Train India’s gesture to celebrate my father’s birthday as the Day of Smiles. I hope all of you come together and contribute to their efforts in every way, especially their Right To Smile pledge campaign. Together, we can help every child smile.”

In 2017, Smile Train announced 20th November, birthday of #SmileMaker and father of our goodwill ambassador Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shri Krishnaraj Rai, as the ‘Day of Smiles’ to honour his memory. The ‘Day Of Smiles’ is celebrated as a Day Of Joy And Cheer by Smile Train, representative of hope that children embody.

This year, we came together to celebrate this day with much fervour and enthusiasm, across the country. Here are a few glimpses from the celebration:

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan joined us along with her little angel, Aaradhya and her mother, Mrs. Vrinda Rai. Their gracious smiles brought cheer to all those present at the event.

Aishwarya showered her love and blessings on the children and their families, while parents shared touching stories of their journey of transformation. It was a pleasure for us to see revived smiles of all the parents now that their kids could smile, and it was indeed a picture perfect moment when all these smiling faces came together on stage.

Aishwarya launched the #RightToSmile campaign and urged people to pledge their support for children born with clefts - “It’s the right of every child to be able to smile. Cleft lip and palate condition is correctable and it is incorrect to connect it with superstition. The information still needs to be spread far and wide in our nation.” she highlighted Aishwarya while addressing the parents and media.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also spent a moment with our partner doctors and surgeons at the event congratulating them for their dedication and commitment towards children born with clefts. She thanked all the doctors present at the event for their support and great work to bring smiles to families. Our partner doctors from Himalayan Hospital, Dehradun; Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bangalore and Savitri Hospital, Gorakhpur connected via a video conference during the event and celebrated the Day of Smiles with us.

A day full of fun and joy was organized for the children to express their new-found smiles, as they played games, posed to create everlasting memories and beautifully expressed their hopes, dreams and aspirations through their drawings.

The day ended on a colorful note with the hope of a cheerful journey ahead and the continued support of our smile makers!
