Smile Train

Miss World

Last Month, I had the pleasure to visit India after being invited by Tamil Nadu Tourism Commissioner. India fulfilled all my expectations and it is a truly amazing country.

There was an opportunity to visit the Smile Train Hospital at Madurai at Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre. It was an honor for me not only because of the cause itself but also because Miss World 1994, Aishwarya Rai, is one of the Global Goodwill Ambassadors for Smile Train.

When I arrived at Smile Train’s partner hospital at Madurai, I felt overwhelmed. The statistics of the work done by the organization are impressive and the look on the children’s faces touched my heart!

There are no words to describe the effect that the actions taken by Smile Train have on those children’s lives. Smile train gives not only a new smile, but a new life to children with clefts. Every year, close to 35,000 babies are born with cleft lips and/or palates in India, Smile Train’s cause is very important because 92% of patients’ families cannot afford the cost of surgery.

I wish my experience can inspire you to get to know a bit more about Smile Train and I’m sure that all together we can make the difference. Don’t forget: Changing the world, one smile at a time!
