Dr Karoon Agrawal, currently serving as consultant plastic surgeon at National Heart Institute, is a committed cleft surgeon with experience of 40 years in cleft care. He  trained at PGIMER Chandigarh in 1983, and Craniofacial institute, Michigan, USA with Dr IT Jackson in 1993. He has established the department of plastic surgery at Medical college, Rohtak and state-of-the-art plastic surgery centre at JIPMER Pondicherry.

He established a new schedule for primary repair of cleft lip and palate in developing countries. He has many innovations to his credit in cleft surgery which include modified palate mouth gag, lip guard, modified classification, designing of vomer flaps, and management of hanging palate. He dons many hats as teacher, educationist, ethical committee chair, editor of text-books, editor and reviewer of journals. He is devoting a significant time in editing a multiauthor multi-volume text-book of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery being published by Thieme. He is the founder editor of Journal of Cleft Lip Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies and member of many national and international professional associations including American Cleft Palate Association and International Society of Burn injury.

Dr Karoon is part of Smile Train as member of global advisory board of Smile Train, member of Indian Medical Advisory council and project director of Smile Train centre at NHI, New Delhi.
