Smile Train runs programs in 3 related
areas, all committed to furthering the understanding
and treatment of clefts:
Free Treatment for Poor Children
This year we will provide free cleft
surgery and related treatment for more than 90,000
children around the world. All surgeries will be performed
by local doctors that Smile
Train has empowered through various partnerships and grants.
As our treatment programs grow rapidly around the world, we
never forget that safety and quality
of care is always our #1 priority.
Our Medical Advisory Board has developed a strict protocol that
all of our treatment partners follow. And we constantly
monitor the quality of care we provide.
Free Training for Doctors
This year, we will help train and educate thousands
of doctors and healthcare professionals around the world in the latest
in cleft surgery and related care.
We support hundreds of educational and
training programs such as symposiums, clinics, training
missions and workshops. In addition, we have helped develop
and support a broad range of cleft
educational materials including virtual surgery software
videos, ‘toll-free ’cleft help lines and free online
access to cleft medical journal articles.
Cleft Research
We support — and partner with — most of the world’s
leading cleft research scientists and institutions.
Our support is focused on three main areas: discovering what
causes clefts, ways to prevent clefts and how to improve the
safety and quality of cleft treatment.
